FBA ( Functional Behavioral Assessment)
This assessment is used to determine when, where and why a challenging behavior occurs. This assessment has been effective at identifying the cause so that proper interventions are put in place. This assessment is completed through the collaboration of educational stakeholders.
BIP (Behavioral Intervention Plan)
This plan uses the hypothesis from the FBA data to develop an intervention plan. The intervention in this plan addresses the problem setting, the antecedents to the behavior, replacement behaviors that will help the student succeed and the desired consequence that addresses the problem behavior.
How does this relate to those with disabilities?
For students will disabilities if an inappropriate behavior occurs. A manifestation determination must be considered in order to determine whether a challenging behavior is directly or significantly a result of the child's disabilities. If the behavior is the result of a manifestation of one's disability an FBA must be complete and a BIP will be developed.
